Misti Mukherjee, Esq.
The Founder of Extensio Law, Misti Mukherjee is a pragmatic, service-oriented lawyer and HR strategist who partners with employers in a wide range of issues related to employment law. Misti’s expertise integrates a strategic, values-oriented approach.
Known for her commitment to high-quality legal service and counsel, Misti is consistently recognized for her excellent work. Named one of the “50 Influential Women of Virginia” by Virginia Lawyer’s Media, Misti has also been listed as one of the “Top 25 Women Attorneys” in Virginia by Richmond Magazine. Selected for inclusion in the “Best Lawyers in America©” for Employment Law, Virginia’s Labor and Employment “Legal Elite” (Virginia Business magazine) and Virginia and Washington DC “Super Lawyers®” for Employment and Labor Law (Law and Politics magazine), Misti was also named a “SmartLawyer” by SmartCEO magazine.
Misti is a dedicated and award-winning community leader. She is a Trustee on the Board of Luminis Health, a non-profit regional health system headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland. Comprised of Anne Arundel Medical Center, Doctors Community Medical Center, J. Kent McNew Family Medical Center, Pathways, DCMC Rehab, and Luminis Health Clinical Enterprise, the system serves a population of 1.5 million people. As one of the region’s largest charitable organizations – with 840 beds, 90+ sites of care, and 9,600 team members – Luminis Health contributes close to $100 million in community benefit annually. Misti’s recent Board service also includes serving as a Trustee on the Board of The Madeira School, where she chaired the Head of School Search Committee, and as an Advisory Board member of Dewey and Young Women Rise. Misti is a past Chairman of the Board of Northern Virginia Family Service and HR Leadership Forum. A champion of healthy and inclusive workplaces, Misti served for more than a decade as Co-Chair of the Advisory Board of the CARE (Companies as Responsive Employer) Awards and she has been a guest lecturer at Cornell University on issues of justice, equity and inclusion in the workplace. She is also an appointed member of the Leadership Fairfax Equity Council.
A critical thinker and evocative HR futurist, Misti is a sought after public speaker and the host of a popular podcast series extensio@work™, exploring topics of leadership, equity and community at work. The Fairfax Law Foundation awarded Misti the “Golden Gavel Award”, in recognition of her service to the community. In 2022, the March of Dimes recognized Misti’s exceptional volunteerism and leadership, naming her a Finalist for the “Heroines of Washington” Award.
Misti was raised in West Africa and is conversant in three languages. After graduating from The Madeira School and the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin, she received her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Prior to forming Extensio Law, Misti was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief People Officer of a national company with more than14,000 employees. For more than 30 years Misti has practiced employment law as a shareholder in both national and regional law firms. Misti’s passionate and entrepreneurial commitment to equity, client service and innovation led her to her to form Extensio Law in April 2018.
