Law Firm OPERATIONS MANAGER

Extensio Law, a woman-owned employment law firm devoted exclusively to representing management, is looking for an experienced Law Firm Operations Manager in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia who will work directly with the Managing Member to manage the firm’s daily business operations.

Description

Duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing firm financial systems, including time-tracking, billing, collections,

    bookkeeping, expense management, and accounts payable

  • Ensuring that the firm’s business systems and processes are documented and

    followed

  • Performing human resources functions, including personnel file maintenance and payroll management

  • Planning and executing client and firm events and seminars; supporting attorney speaking engagements, sponsorships, and corporate philanthropy

  • Working closely with the Managing Member to create and manage the firm’s marketing plans and strategic calendar

  • Responding to and anticipating client needs and administrative inquiries

  • Managing attorney travel and calendar, as needed

Required Qualifications/Skills 

  • 3+ years of experience managing and/or supervising business operations.

    functions in human resources, accounting, payroll and/or finance

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant administrative experience in professional services organization, preferably a law firm

  • A thorough understanding of accounting and financial principles

  • Knowledge of legal industry matters (including professional liability and conflicts of interest)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • A record of successful teamwork and the delivery of exceptional client service

  • On-the-job experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, QuickBooks, and Office 365, as well as bookkeeping, timekeeping, and billing systems, such as Bill for Time

  • Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work

  • Strong business acumen and responsive, service-oriented attitude

  • An intense focus on getting the job done, on time, with an eye toward process improvement

  • Exemplary organizational skills, as well as attention to detail

  • Proactive, with demonstrated initiative, ability to work independently, with the ability to anticipate and address follow-up needs and escalate issues for attorney review

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines

  • Team-orientation and a collaborative spirit

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Professional certifications are a plus, including a Certified Legal Manager (CLM) designation.

  • Prior experience in labor and employment law is desired

This position is part-time, 15–20 hours per week. The firm offers compensation based on experience level and client orientation. The salary range is $35–$50 per hour, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

The candidate may work remotely or from the firm’s offices in Annapolis, Maryland. Remote work location must be Maryland, Washington DC, or Northern Virginia.
